Copywriting Tips - Constructing The Perfect Plot Line

If you've read the title of this article, you're probably wondering what plot lines have to do with writing sales copy. Well, believe it or not, the best sales copy ever written could be made into a made for TV movie. Think I'm kidding? What do you think it is that keeps the prospect reading? It's the plot, or the story, or whatever you want to call it. And if you want to write killer copy that sizzles, you need to understand this very well.

Think of your headline as the teaser for a TV show. You hit them with your intro shot right away. You give the prospect an opening similar to seeing somebody getting shot to start the show. The chase then begins to find out who the murderer is and why the person was shot to begin with. If you write a headline like that, you almost guarantee that the person reading is going to want to see how the show turns out.

Okay, so you hit them with the headline. Now what? Well, you might want to backtrack a little with your story. Let's say your headline is "Make $30,000 In The Next 30 Days...Guaranteed!" Okay, it's a little over the top and I'd never use a headline so obvious, but I'm sure you get the point, You've got the prospect hooked into reading what comes next. Now you backtrack and tell how the story began.

To do this, you might start with how you were an out of work cab driver and were just about to lose your home. You needed to make money and make it fast. You were desperate...and so on. What this does is it establishes two things. For starters, it shows the prospect where you are coming from. They can see that at one time you TOO were struggling. They can identify because they are there right now. That's how your story begins.

Then the story progresses. You tell how you stumbled onto some site or some techniques and after using them, you began to make money. After a while, you began to make a lot of money. Now this establishes two more things. The first is that you got out of your rut and the second is that you are now offering hope to the person who is struggling now.

Finally, you inform the prospect that you can help them achieve the same success and point them in the right direction to your buy now link. This is all set up by the perfect headline and plot line that you've written.

Now, naturally, you will need to outline all this before you write it. That's what makes this process like writing a TV show script. Trust me, I know...I used to write scripts. Copywriting is very similar.

Follow the above process and you should see conversions increase considerably.
